The extension project "Socorristas Mirins" from the University of the State of Minas Gerais, Divinópolis campus, aimed to train children and teenagers from a public school in the city of Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, in first aid techniques through practical and realistic workshops. The program consisted of twelve meetings, divided into groups of children and teenagers, addressing topics such as the role of SAMU and the Fire Department, airway obstructions, burns, bites from venomous animals, traumas, hemorrhages, fainting, seizures, glycemic disorders, and Acute Myocardial Infarction. Children had a higher average participation rate (79.5%) compared to teenagers (62%). Interactive activities, with resources such as slides, realistic simulations, and playful materials, were adopted to maintain participants' interest. The extension project brought the university and the community closer together, providing participants with access to quality information and opportunities for nursing students to develop first aid skills.
