To understand the technological, environmental and socioeconomic impacts of viticulture in a region with a warm climate in the state of Espírito Santo, energy flows in family-based viticulture in the municipality of Guarapari, coastal region of the State, were evaluated. Production data from eleven family properties were used. The energy input (MJ) of the components involved in one hectare of cultivation was verified. Energies, categorized as direct and indirect, contributed 60.9% (18,767.24 MJ) and 39.1% (12,027.1 MJ) of inputs, respectively. Renewable energy contributed 24.2% (7,453.01 MJ) and non-renewable energy contributed 75.8% (23,341.24 MJ) of inputs. As an energy output, ripe grapes were considered with 181,953.05 MJ. Energy Efficiency (EE), Energy Conversion (CE), Specific Energy (EES) and Net Available Energy (ELD) were 5.91; 0.50 kg.MJ-1; 2.00 MJ.kg-1 and 151,158.81 MJ, respectively. Despite the large use of non-renewable resources, viticulture systems in the hot region studied proved to be sustainable.
