University Extension is continually evolving to meet legal requirements and societal demands, necessitating a solid theoretical and methodological foundation. A review of literature and analysis of 200 Extension articles address contemporary methodological challenges, including references, citation of models, co-authorship, and method characterization. Findings reveal a lack of adequate methodological descriptions in many articles, prompting reflection on methodology and ethics. The article proposes categorizing Extension methods and discusses the need for further research to establish a theoretical-methodological framework. Integrating this framework into Extension initiatives and publications is crucial but challenging for institutionalizing University Extension and academic education.
