The dentist's work in a hospital environment allows the reduction of opportunistic infections, the early diagnosis of oral lesions, as well as the identification of other clinical conditions that may go unnoticed by the medical team. The objective of this work is to highlight the importance of Hospital Dentistry in the management of clinical conditions within the competence of the dental surgeon based on an experience report from the Extension Project “Oral Health in a Hospital Environment - Dental Care for patients hospitalized at Santa Casa de Caridade - Diamantina/MG (SCCD)”. During project activities, a jaw fracture was identified in a patient victim of a car accident, which had not been identified by the institution's medical team. Due to the rapid identification and referral of the case to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon associated with SCCD, it was possible to carry out the treatment with good clinical evolution, highlighting the importance of the dental surgeon in the hospital team.
