Abstract

The National Curricular Guidelines (NCG) for Dentistry include the oral health (OH) of people with disabilities (PwD), highlighting humanized care shared with the healthcare team. The objective is to report the interdisciplinary care for OH of PwD students carried out by the extension team of the extension project (EP) “Health Promotion in the School Community of the Colégio Aplicação da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina”, between 2015 and 2023. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy were treated. Together with special education teachers and students' families, care strategies were practiced based on interdisciplinarity, interprofessionality, ambience and the use of light and assistive technologies. The EP qualified care based on the biopsychosocial model and brought undergraduates closer to PwD. It contributed to the training of the future humanist dental surgeon, who is capable of articulating different knowledge and involved in reducing barriers to access to dental treatment.
