Abstract

The ReabilitArte Extension Project, from the Universidade Federal de Alfenas, aims to provide prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with bucomaxillofacial mutilations, restoring aesthetics, functionality, and self-esteem. Head and neck cancer treatments often result in facial mutilations, affecting the patients' image and quality of life. In this context, prosthetic rehabilitation is essential for recovering physiological functions and improving emotional and social well-being. This study highlights the importance of extension activities in bucomaxillofacial rehabilitation, presenting the clinical case of a patient with nasal mutilation caused by melanoma, treated with a nasal prosthesis. The process included facial molding, creation of a plaster model, wax sculpture, and laboratory processing of the prosthesis, which was fixed to a pair of glasses. The patient was satisfied with the aesthetic and functional result, demonstrating the positive impact on self-esteem and social reintegration.
