This study aims to report the experience of implementing and conducting Community Integrative Therapy (CIT) sessions in specialized mental health services and describe the contributions from the interplay between teaching, research, and extension. This stems from the research and extension project "Community Integrative Therapy in the territory: care spaces for people in psychological distress," with a qualitative and descriptive approach, configured as an experience report. The approach was carried out with people in psychological distress and their families registered in these services in a municipality in Bahia, Brazil. The experience confirmed that CIT is a powerful, feasible, and essential mental health (MH) care tool for facing situations that promote suffering, promoting individual and collective MH. Therefore, we understand that the teaching-research-extension axis, combined with the significant impacts on users, highlights the importance of investing in community therapeutic practices, providing participants the opportunity to take charge of their care process.
