Abstract

In formal education, the use of illustrative practices is rarely used by teachers for science and biology teaching. However, the use of different methodologies is a practice that should be encouraged from the earliest formative years taking into consideration that when a new teaching strategy is effective it increases teachers’ confidence making them more secure in classroom environment. This study is part of the outreach project “Scientific Illustration: Arts and Science Integrated”, carried out at the state school Santa Claudina, located in the district of Mimoso in the city of city Santo Antônio de Leverger, located in Baron of Melgaço, state of Mato Grosso. The practices were developed in two classes of Youth and Adult Education Center (CEJA), with students from 6th grade of primary school and with teachers from that school, through techniques of scientific illustration, such as decal, graffitism and pointillism. Through this teaching strategy, the contents were taught differently in order to improve the teaching and learning process.
