Abstract

This study presents the results of the outreach project "Copyright - an Artistic and Legal Approach", developed at Federal University of Pará (UFPA) in 2015. It aimed to contribute to the transmission of doctrinal and legal knowledge about copyright to the students of Music of UFPA in order to raise their awareness about Brazilian legislation on protection of intellectual property, such as copyright. In Brazil, the current legislation deals with it in the Federal Constitution, the Penal Code and Law No. 9.610 / 98, among other legislations. Therefore, the aim of this project is the right which emanates from the author-work, which includes material and moral aspects and, also, involves the protection of rights in the digital age. To put it simply, from the moment people are aware about their rights, it soon emerges the worries about its violation. The general aim of this project is to make students of Music of UFPA aware of the importance of protecting authors’ rights taken into account Brazilian legislation. Among the issues examined, it highlights how author's rights are protected in Brazilian legal system. The project was developed through lectures, discussions and short courses related to the subject in order to provide students with knowledge about legislations that protect authors’ rights. Despite representing a major advance for authorial class, it is observed that Brazilian legislations still present gaps that must be fulfilled through the public awareness about the importance of protecting these rights.
