Let’s Read Project, School newspaper, Reading, Writing.Abstract
This paper presents reflections on the use of a newspaper in the classroom, considering it not only as a teaching tool that plays a significant role in the development of reading and writing, but also as a mediation instrument between the individual who learns (reader) and the knowledge (information). Such reflections are the result of a university extension project implemented at the Rector Álvaro Augusto Cunha da Rocha School, an institution that is part of the Children and Adolescent Full Attention Center – CAIC (Brazilian abbreviation), a supplementary entity of the State University of Ponta Grossa. This teaching project, called O jornal na sala de aula (The Newspaper in the Classroom) is a partnership with the Project Vamos Ler (Let’s read), which, in turn, integrates the Programa Jornal e Educação (Newspaper and Education Program) promoted by the Jornal da Manhã (The Morning Paper), a traditional newspaper in the city of Ponta Grossa. The project is developed with students from the 4th and 5th years of elementary school in the previously mentioned institution and is based on the understanding that inserting the newspaper in the school routine, in addition to motivate reading and writing, can also promote the development of the students’ reflection and criticism upon their own reality.Downloads
