Abstract

In this paper, through the report of an extension initiative called “Agora: city and politics in Juiz de Fora”, we problematize the role of the city as the arena for political debate, the exercise of democracy and the locus of encounters. Based on an understanding of extension as a formative and educational practice, the city is discussed as the place where politics occurs. The project in question was developed using a methodology that valued the “street conversations” that took place in different locations in the city of Juiz de Fora - MG. After reporting on the meetings, we conclude with the main challenges faced and the project's impact on the practices of teachers and students.
