Abstract

The infiltration, collision and consolidation of the modern culture in the paranaense field artistic were a slow and conflicting process. From end of the forties, the Joaquim literature and art magazine (46-48) brings to Paraná the primordial informations about modern art. In the fifties, with initial opposition to academic mentality of Paranaense Saloon and of the School of Music and Fine Arts, one appear the first paranaenses artistic manifestations opened to the modernity. These manifestations were closer of the gaúchos Engraving Clubs that of carioca and paulista concretism. However, just at the beginning of the sixties, with the formation of a cultural politics addressed to updating the local art, the abstract modernism begins to dominate the art institutions in Paraná, above all Paranaense Saloon. The abstractionism that it circulated in largest artistic institutions of country will be hegemonic in Paraná. Here, the abstract art is resulted by local cultural politics that adapted itself to ideas of modernity of that paranaense and national industrialization period .
