Abstract

Este artigo busca desenvolver uma reflexão sobre a CidadeMedieval emsuas relações com o sistema feudal, elaborando um sintético panorama de posicionamentos historiográcos relacionados a algumas das grandes questões pertinentes à História Urbana Medieval. Parte-se de uma discussão inicial acerca da dupla perspectiva de acordo com a qual pode ser examinada a cidade enquanto forma social especíca: como um sistema em si mesma (perspectiva interna), e como elemento de um sistema mais abrangente (perspectiva externa). A ênfase, na seqüência do texto, refere-se ao exame das várias análises historiográcas sobre a posição da Cidade em relação ao sistema feudal.

This article attempts to discuss medieval cities and their relations with the feudal system. The article provides a general historiographic view related to some of the great issues concerning urban medieval history. The starting point is a discussion about the double perspective from which these cities can be examined as particular social forms: as a system in themselves (internal perspective), and as na element of a broader system (external perspective). The emphasis presented in the text refers to the examination of the various historiographic analysis about the position of cities in relation to the feudal system.
