The Mathematics and Citizenship extension project is developed together with the CAZITA Program, whose mission is to contribute to the students’ education for citizenship, developing a way of seeing the world and thinking about it from a mathematical perspective. In this work, activities developed in 2019 are presented. Those activities aimed to help students understand the measurement units of length and capacity, the concept of scale, and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in mathematical problems involving everyday situations. Concepts related to renewable and non-renewable energy sources, ecology, and conscious consumption of natural resources are addressed as well as their connections with mathematical knowledge. The model was based on Collaborative Investigation proposed by Ole Skovsmose, through experimental and explanatory research. The activities enabled students to build knowledge based on experimentation and, with that, the students became protagonists in the knowledge construction.
