Aim: To analyze the effect of the Capoeira Extension Project (P_EXTCAPO) of the Nilo Coelho Foundation in Petrolina-PE on the waist circumference (WC) of elderly women. Methods: Two groups of women participated in the intervention: Capoeira (n=13) and Control (n=10). The P_EXTCAPO lasted 12 weeks with two classes/week of 60-min each at moderate intensity. WC was measured pre- and 12 weeks post-P_EXTCAPO. Results: There was no difference between groups in WC (F [1.000;21.000] =3.320; ηp2=0.137; p=0.083). However, there was a moderate effect size in the reduction of WC for the Capoeira Group (∆ES=0.91). Also, the greater the frequency of classes, the greater the reduction in WC (r=-0.502; p=0.015), with this frequency mediating a significant effect on WC (β=-0.161; CI95%=-0.280/-0.042; R2=0.29; p=0.03). Conclusion: Twelve weeks of P_EXTCAPO promotes important clinical results with a moderately favorable effect in reducing WC in elderly women, with the reduction in WC being mediated by class attendance.
