This article aims to characterize the innovative processes in the trajectories of family livestock production units in the Gaúcha Campaign. Based on the study of three cases - Associação de Produtores do Rincão do 28, participants in the RS Biodiversidade program and family livestock who carry out crosses between sheep breeds - changes were identified in different spheres of routines in the investigated units. Such changes were stimulated by the action of rural extension agents, taking into account the experiences, trajectories and lessons learned by family livestock. The courses, lectures, meetings that family livestock attend are understood as opportunities to combine new knowledge with experience in the activity. Thus, it appears that several techniques of innovative processes underwent adaptations in the production units, according to each reality and availability of resources; this adaptive process is understood as innovation.
