Abstract

Perioperative care includes preoperative teaching; stoma demarcation; the teaching of self-care and collection equipment, aiming at hospital discharge. This extension project, developed together with the Study Group on Rehabilitation of Surgical Oncology Patients, aimed to carry out the reception; the perioperative teaching of adult and elderly patients who are candidates for ostomy, together with the demarcation of the stoma, from 09/2021 to 05/2022, at Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto. This is a quantitative study with a systematic approach, based on the Arch Method by Charles Maguerez. The extension project resulted in 208 consultations with surgical referral and stoma demarcation, with an average of 17 patients/month hospitalized. It is concluded that there was an integrated construction of knowledge among undergraduates, postgraduates and resident nurses, contributing to the improvement of care for this clientele, as well as enabling the construction of techniques to qualify nursing care.
