Discussing university extension is highlighting one of the three pillars of University Education, which, since its inception, has been considered by many as “the poor cousin” of the teaching/research/extension triad. In this sense, this article presents the evolution of the concept of university extension in Brazil and its inclusion in the official documents of the Federal Technological University of Paraná –UTFPR, from its creation law (2005) to the publication of IN 167/2022 which deals with Extension Curricularization to meet strategy 12.7 of goal 12 of the National Education Plan, which recommends the duty of HEIs to ensure at least 10% (ten percent) of their total credits from undergraduate courses for the implementation of programs and university extension projects. The article shows not only the conceptual evolution of the extension as well as its practice at UTFPR.
