Abstract

The importance of Environmental Education (EE) in continuing education is commonly described in the literature. This study aimed to analyze the conceptions about the Environment and Environmental Education before and after a continuing education course, in addition to verifying whether these conceptions varied according to the professional training of the participants. Undergraduate students, professors and graduate students from different educational institutions in 15 Brazilian states participated. We obtained 144 responses before and after the course. The results suggest that the participants presented, mostly, a look at the Environment (AM) as a System, while for EA we verified, above all, a Conservationist EA. We identified that the conceptions varied according to the training area, with emphasis on Biological Sciences, in which more than five categories were identified for MA and EA. In view of this, we emphasize that with the course it was possible to reflect on proposals for training in EA and AM in the school context in different curricular subjects.
