CHALLENGES AND POTENTIALS OF THE PET-SAÚDE EQUIDADE IN A NORTHEAST CITY IN BRAZIL: THE ACCOUNT OF A GROUP OF EXTENSION ACADEMICS

Introduction: The Education through Work for Health Program (PET-Saúde) aims to integrate teaching, health services, and community through university extension activities, emphasizing interdisciplinarity and focusing on Equity in its 11th edition. This study describes challenging situations faced and potentialities recorded by extensionist academics from the program in health units in Maceió, Alagoas. Method: This an experience report on sustained education activities with health workers, addressing equity, health inequities, gender diversity, sexuality, and racism, conducted by Working Group 2 of the program coordinated by two public state universities between 2024/2025. Results: The activities promoted advances in understanding the themes, interdisciplinary integration, theory-practice interaction, and the valuation of health education, despite challenges such as structural barriers, resistance, and professional unavailability. Conclusion: The program has generated positive impacts on student formation and sensitized professionals to equity, promoting changes in health practices, even in the face of the challenges encountered.
