Abstract

In the late 1960s, Professor Luiz Beltrão shared his interest in investigating the TV news coverage. He understood how the electronic image was able to influence the watcher. Beltrão observed that TV's technological and content revolution forced a behavior change of the press in both TV news language and publicity. He predicted, as a visionary, the emergence of companies of broadcasting similar CNN. Among the journalism competencies defined by Beltrão there are topicality and promotion. This article focuses on the idea of promotion, understood here in terms of the capacity of the TV spread news with social responsibility. Journalism; TV news; Topicality; Promotion.

Author Biography

Aline Maria Grego Lins, UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA DE PERNAMBUCO

Aline Maria Grego Lins holds a degree in Journalism from Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (1981), a course founded by Luiz Beltrão, who also holds a degree in Pedagogy from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1985) and a Master's degree in Education from Fundação Getúlio Vargas - RJ (1993). PhD in Communication and Semiotics from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (2000). She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University of Pernambuco. Has experience in the area of Communication, with emphasis in audiovisual: television; history of the press, communication and citizenship, communication in school and telejournalistic production. Author of the book The Alphabetization of the Look (1998), is part of the Research Groups of Culture and Contemporary Media, Unicap, and the Center for Studies in Genetic Criticism, PUC of São Paulo. Also participates as author of chapters in the books Syndrome of the Mordaça: media and censorship in Brazil, The Society of the Telejornalismo, Telejornalismo: the new public square, and Guel Arraes an inventor in the Brazilian audiovisual. She was regional director of INTERCOM Nordeste from 2014 to 2017 and currently teaches the Masters in Creative Industries, Catholic University of Pernambuco.
