Abstract

This study is a qualitative literature review that aims to analyze what the findings of academic studies published between 2012 and 2025 reveal about continuing professional education offered to school leadership teams. The 87 studies selected for the review were organized into two groups: Continuing education initiatives linked to an education authority and Continuing education initiatives not linked to an education authority. Six analytical categories emerged from this organization, leading to the conclusion that, on the one hand, the studies identify positive aspects associated with democratic school management, collaboration, and school leaders’ participation in continuing education processes. On the other hand, recurrent dissatisfaction was identified with programs grounded in a managerialist perspective on school administration. The discontinuation of national continuing professional education programs stands out as one of the main criticisms regarding the education provided to school leadership teams.
