Author Guidelines

Statement of ethical issues

Journal Terr@Plural has a commitment to the fulfillment of ethical issues related to published articles, as evaluation and publication processes. The editors, in the preliminary analysis, seek to identify the ethical care used in the research and ask the evaluators to do so as well. Ethical decisions and procedures are based on the following documents:

- CNS Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012 (Ethics in Research with Human Beings)

- CNS Resolution No. 510, of April 7, 2016 (Ethics in Research in Human and Social Sciences)

-Document of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq)- Ethics and integrity in scientific practice - 2011(http://www.pse.uem.br/documentos/normas-e-regulamentos/cnpq-etica.pdf)

- American Psychological Association Manual - APA (6th edition, Editora Penso, 2018).

Guidelines:

1 - Articles

Studies evaluated by an Ethics Committee (Plataforma Brasil, CONEP, or another system) should mention in a footnote the number of the respective process. If the research project that gave rise to the article has not been submitted to an Ethics Committee, it is recommended that the authors include in a footnote a self-declaration of ethical principles and procedures.

Research conducted with groups potentially in vulnerable situations (children, people with disabilities/special needs, elderly, families in situations of social vulnerability or psychosocial risk, people in long-term care institutions, among others) or with traditional communities requires special attention in relation to ethical care, both in the production of data, in the interaction with the subjects as in the analysis and dissemination of results.

2 - As for authorship

The journal does not limit the number of authors and co-authors but recommends that only people who contributed significantly to the work be included. Authors should be able to describe their personal contribution to the work when requested by the editors.

3 - Plagiarism and self-plagiarism

Before submitting the article, the authors must make sure that all ideas of other authors are properly cited and included in the list of references.  Journal editors can use the plagiarism control system at their discretion before submitting articles to evaluators. Regarding self-plagiarism, the article should constitute an original contribution, and citations of previous works of the author should be used only when necessary to understand the unpublished article.

4 - Evaluation process

The journal exclusively evaluates articles within the Open Journal System (OJS) and no other form of evaluation will be valid, including in the organization of dossiers, except invited authors for special contributions, clearly identified as such.

Every article submitted is a confidential document and publishers and evaluators may not cite or circulate copies of the articles for any purpose.

All editorial history and correspondence between authors, editors, and referees are recorded in the OJS system.

Article submission, final version receipt dates, and acceptance dates will be extracted from OJS.

Standards for sending papers

1- The texts must be sent exclusively through the journal's website. When registering, do not forget to place the institution/organ in which it operates, city, and state of all authors. It is mandatory to fill in your  Orcid identification number and validate it to ensure safe indexing and correct parameterization of your production. Please obtain your registration at https://orcid.org

2- It is asked that the texts be typed in space 1,5, justified alignment, in Arial font, size 12, with a paragraph of 1.25 cm, and that do not contain markings or number of pages or lines. We provide a guide for the submission of articles in the Journal Library.

3- The author's name(s) should not appear in the body of the article to ensure anonymity in the evaluation process. Authors are asked to suggest, in a footnote, up to three possible reviewers, with their respective e-mails. This does not necessarily imply that these reviewers will be invited.

4- Articles and essays should preferably have between 3,000 and 5,000 words, including bibliographic references. Figures, tables, notes, and tables should be affixed next to your quotation in the text.

5- They must be accompanied by abstract  (from 250 to 300 words) and keywords (maximum 5) in Portuguese, English, and Spanish,  different from the words used in the title. This, in the font Arial 14 bolded, should also be translated into English and Spanish. Please start the abstract with a phrase that presents the topic sentence and make sure that the main results and conclusions are in the abstract and its translations. Abstracts that are not informative will be returned for completion.

6- Reviews, interviews, and scientific notes should preferably have 1,000 to 2,500 words. Reviews must provide on the first page the bibliographic data of the work reviewed (author, title, edition, location, publisher, and the number of pages). Interviews should include a brief biography of the interviewee.

7- Format of the text (citations and references follow the APA standard):
- double quotation marks for citations with up to 40 words;
- citations with more than 40 words should be highlighted by skipping a line before and after the paragraph, following the 1.25 cm indentation of the left margin, with Arial 12 font and single space, without quotation marks, followed by the quotation in author parentheses, date, initial and final pages cited.
- employ single quotes for words with unconventional employment;
- italics for  titles of project titles and publications, as well as speeches of interviewees;
- explanatory notes must come at the foot of the page, numbered sequentially;
- citations must have been called in the body of the text by the author's surname(s), year of publication, and also, for direct citations, the page number. For mention by the author, only the initial of the name should be capitalized.
Examples:
a) According to Corrêa (1997, p. 152), "Space as a geographical objectification of the study of the city has several facets that allow it to be studied in a multivariate way".
b) "The space as a geographical objectification of the study of the city presents several facets that allow it to be studied in a multivariate way" (Corrêa, 1997, p.152)
- the list of complete bibliographic references should be presented at the end of the text, in a 1,0 space, source Arial 10, with a space after each paragraph;
- references must be sorted alphabetically and chronologically according to the APA system.

8- The tables prepared by the author(s) should be in the Word format (not used in the form of a figure, unless it is a table copied entirely from the literature); the figures (in jpg or TIFF digital format, with good resolution) must be inserted in the text, centered, with title numbered sequentially in Arabic above them, and an indication of the font below. The call of tables and figures (maps, photos, graphics, flowcharts, etc...) should be clear in the text. Note: Note the indications about file sizes. Your picture files should also be sent through the electronic platform as a "supplementary file", saved with the same number of figures inserted in the text, as a backup source in case of misconfiguration in the transmission.

9- In references with Digital  Object  Identifier  (DOI), the link must be active and complete, as in the example: http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1517-707620170001.0104.

10- References of events, academic papers (theses, dissertations, and monographs), reports, and regional publications must be accompanied by the recovery link on the web network.

11 - Sources of funding or support must be declared in the system. In the text, they can come in a footnote or in Acknowledgements, succinctly.

12 - Authors must declare, as a supplementary archive in the system, their responsibility for the veracity of the published content, as well as the non-existence of conflict of interest between the author(s), the information presented in the work, or any institutions mentioned. Seek for a letter model at the Journal Library. The evaluators are also required to record the absence of conflict of interest in each evaluation performed.

13-  We submit the work to the search routine to Cross ref's iThenticate anti-plagiarism program in order to avoid legal problems for the journal and authors. Thus, the authors may receive any questions during the evaluation process of the work submitted, regarding the possible similarities pointed out by the software.

14- When receiving your revised text, please save with another name (keeping the same submission number) and keep the original revision marks. Turn on the Word 'track changes' tool (or equivalent) to show your answers.

15 - In your communications with publishers always use the number and full title of your submission so that your text is located in the system.
