The Vulnerability of the "sugarcane cities" in the Triângulo Mineiro, MG, Brazil: territorial effects of the closure of sugarcane industries

This paper evaluates situations of territorial vulnerability from the productive specialization process in the sugarcane industry in two municipalities located in the Triângulo Mineiro, Western Minas Gerais State. The significant area set apart to sugarcane planting carried out an expressive dependence on the industrial and agricultural jobs and the two sugarcane industries closure involved new conditions for municipalities. It was observed drastic territorial consequences involving the urban economy and local daily life.
