This article analyzes territorial changes in family farming in the West of Santa Catarina and the migration of young people from the countryside, a phenomenon that threatens the social reproduction of family farming in the region, historically marked by the presence of small rural properties. The qualitative research was built through a literature review in an interdisciplinary perspective, data collection and semistructured interviews with young people who remained in the field. The results point to a strong trend of rural/city migration of youth in the region, and the permanence in the countryside is linked to living and working conditions in rural areas.
