Abstract

As reflexões de Pierre Gourou sobre o mundo tropical, particularmente o sudoeste asiático, representa um importante marco nas relações entre a geografia e o imperialismo. A partir de influências da medicina e de uma concepção de que os trópicos representavam a antítese do mundo europeu temperado, o discurso geográfico de Gourou formaliza uma visão míope sobre o mundo tropical e seus habitantes.
