In this essay, we investigate the relationship between memory and resistance in the novel O que ela sussura (2020) by Noemi Jaffe. In it, we find a fictional reconstruction of the life trajectory of Nadezhda Mandelstam (1899-1980), wife of Óssip Mandelstam (1891-1938), a Russian poet persecuted and killed by the Stalinist regime. The character Nadezhda plays the role of heir and guardian of her husband's legacy, as well as sometimes the author of that same legacy, situating herself in an ambiguous identity field. Jaffe's poetic prose provides an investigation of how memory is intertwined with the concepts of creation and resistance, especially in the face of authoritarian political systems.
