E-Learning Education and teacher training in Santa Catarina (1998-2018)

Abstract

This article presents the results of a research on e-learning dynamics in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. More specifically, it is analyzed the role of e-learning in the training of teachers in Santa Catarina in the period between 1998 and 2018. In addition to the bibliographical and documentary research, it was carried out an extensive survey and analysis of microdata on face-to-face and e-learning Higher Education available in the Census of Higher Education databases of the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP). The research showed, among other results: (i) the significant increase in the number of e-learning courses, enrollments and graduates after 2012; (ii) the decrease in the number of e-learning courses and enrollments in public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs); (iii) the increasing privatization process; and (iv) the wide predominance of private HEIs in teacher training in Santa Catarina.
