Abstract

Grounded in historical-dialectical materialism, this study aims to examine how the current educational programs in the state of Paraná embody managerialism and contribute to the weakening of public education via their subordination to neoliberal principles. For this, it draws an analogy with the myth of the Lernaean Hydra, associating the Paraná state government with the mythical creature and its multiple heads with the educational initiatives in its educational system. This study analyzes educational programs and their implications for school organization and the work of school leaders, highlighting the need to confront these policies to prevent the “monster” from regenerating new heads and to dismantle those already in place.
