A tour of the original proposal of the Installations for play: spaces of symbolic creation from and with childhood

Through the framework of a textual and visual story, this study is based on contributions from authors such as Aucouturier (2004), Winnicott (2006), and Tomasello (2007) to describe the origin and development, to the present day, from the original proposal of the Installations for Play in the context of the 0-6 years old nursery school. These “symbol places” (Ruiz de Velasco and Abad, 2019) or intersubjective spaces as a metaphor for relationship life, are configured to favor the expression of the imaginary and the symbolic creation of childhoods accompanied by their adult references. The Installations for Play propose specific objects offered through triads in a “total space”, inspired by the aesthetics of contemporary art, which is configured to be transformed as a privileged area that welcomes the manifestations of children's culture and the meaningful interpretation of the shared processes of socio-emotional, cognitive and affective development.
