Laguages in numbers: what is it awaiting for us in the third decade of the 21st century?

Abstract
The debates about teacher education were in the spotlight recently in Pedagogy professionals researches and, more specifically, in Applied Linguistics (AL). However, it is still incipient the interest of applied linguists in management of Language Teacher Education courses as also a relevant issue. The purpose of the present paper is to analyze data from the years 2001 and 2018 about competition, admission, number of enrollments and concluding of Language Teacher Education, in special the ones in English, to draft possible scenarios for the 2020 decade. The theoretical reference is based on Calvo (2011), Louzano (2012), Aranha e Souza (2012), Gatti (2014) e Silva (2015). The chosen methodology is based on bibliographic research and statistical analysis. The results point to a possible radical change in the Language Teacher Education, which tends to be offered mostly via distance education.
