Abstract
Este texto é o resultado de uma pesquisa bibliográfica com a finalidade de esclarecer o que se vem entendendo por competências, habilidade e capacidades, tendo em vista que são termos polissêmicos. A elaboração do texto visa trazer informações, em especial aos professores da educação básica de uma forma mais acessível, como alguns autores vêm concebendo os termos já citados, nas pesquisas divulgadas na última década e tentar explicitá-los, uma vez que, principalmente, a conceituação de competência está recebendo diferentes e contraditórias significações nos meios escolares, o que dificulta a orientação da prática pedagógica dos profissionais da educação e de instituições que perspectivam a implantação/implementação de outra estrutura para a educação.
